This new, additional Road Race Award is designed so that any member can win. Each year there will be a number of Target road races (14 for 2007-8) – before each of these races, a list of members Target Times will be published and points will be awarded for finishing within the target band or faster than the target band. Each runner’s target will be based on their own ability and recent known form. Whilst by design male & female runners could compete for the same award, there will be separate awards for males and females.
Rules
Season shall run from 1st November to 31st October.
Juniors Aged 15-19 will only score in races of 10km or less.
Chip times where available will be used.
Target times will correspond to the New Marske Harriers Road Racing Scheme points table times. Times will be set based on the most recently published* average score for each runner, on the main club Road Race Award Scheme table. The Target Band will be within the time slot immediately above and below the Target Time.
Scoring:
Points will be awarded for each race thus:
1 point for completing a race.
3 points for finishing within the target band
5 points for finishing within the next higher band (3 time slots)
8 points for premium times (faster than the above 2 time bands).
The best FIVE scores from the Target Races will be added together and the runner with highest total will be the award winner. In the event of two or more runners having the same total score then the best “faster than target performance” will be used as a tie-breaker.
*It is the responsibility for each runner to supply results details to the Road Race Scheme Administrator (John Rymer) – if a member submits his/her results late for the main award and this would have otherwise resulted in an decreased target time, then the Management Committee reserve the right to re-adjust the target retrospectively.
Example: a runner with an average points score of 86. 10 mile Target Time = 1hr 10min

In say the Thirsk 10, if the runner’s actual time is 1:12:07 the runner scores only 1 point for completing the race, 1:09:21 scores 3 points (not quite in the Higher band), 1:08:55 scores 5 points and any time equal to or faster than 1:08:20 would score 8 points.
