Memeber of the month Summer 2016

 Anybody who has not received

A full list of previous winners can be found here

Remember, any member/parent/coach can nominate a senior or junior each month. It will allow the club to recognise achievements that are not necessarily catered for by our existing award structure. It could be for competing or volunteering. Preference will usually be to those where the event has taken place within the month and who are unlikely to win one of the club's annual awards - but this will depend the strength of each month's nominations.

A Weekend to Celebrate

The weekend got off to a fantastic start on Saturday morning at Gateshead in the Engish Schools Championsip when Matthew Brining consolidated his position at the top of the UK U15 Pole Vault ranking, equalling his pb and only missing out on a gold medal on countback - he cleared 3.65m - the same height as the winner.

And on Sunday..

30 Laps for 30 Years

New Marske Harriers celebrated its 30 year anniversary\birthday with a 30 lap relay and picnic in Locke Park Redcar for members and their family.

IMG 1053

We weren't sure about how the weather would fair but we had a plan. we arranged to borrow Loftus Scout tent care of Helen Tyreman and erected by her husband Gordon and son Ben, with grandma (Helens mum Olive) supervising from her deckchair. We used the old putting green next to the boathouse to pitch the tents and place tables, blankets and chairs. The start and change over area was at the boathouse using the timing system.

We had 20 teams of up to 6 members all wearing a number, with the vast majority wearing club vests, carrying a homemade baton fashioned from plastic drainpipe, the chip inside the baton.

The relay started all running a lap of the lake, just over 720m. we had people of all abilities from toddlers to 80+, fit and not so fit, they toddled, walked, jogged and ran. It was used for training and fun. it was a good warm up for Tristan Learoyd as he went on to win the Kilburn 7 a few hours later.

It was a great event for club members and families to get to know one another, everyone seemed to make a new friend. The picnic also saw two more birthdays celebrated, Bethany O'Grady 12 and Matthew Chinnock 13, they celebrated with a chocolate cake whilst New Marske Harriers had a wonderful cake made by HelenTyremans daughter Emma.

All those that competed were given a goodie bag of snacks to enjoy with their picnic and a bespoke medal designed by Kerry Neesam. The winning team were the Wagner Striders comprising of Paul Cleasby, Allan Wilson, Michael Lythe, Mike Smith, Glen Farrell and James Allinson.  No expense was spared on the winning trophies, we knew the pound shop would come in handy there.

Any event wouldn't be the same without the presence of photographer Karen Newton link, also taking great photos was Pete Best link.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped out, must also mention Brian Chinnock who marked the course with chalked arrows as well as clearing it as he does on a weekly basis with his shovel.
