Mark shines in Edinburgh
and New Marske duo beat Olympic Champions
“A great run for Mark Shaw who might not have been expected to be top of the British Athletes”, the words of Steve Cram commentating on Mark’s excellent performance in the BUPA Great Edinburgh Junior Men Challenge. Mark took the lead 2km in to the event and at one point looked a major contender for the title, but he was working in isolation and into a tough wind. American Kirubel Errasa battled with Mark & Kieron Clements and steadily closed the gap overtaking them on the final lap to win the race with Kieron 2nd and Mark an excellent 3rd with only 3 seconds separating the first three.
In the men’s 3km invitation Ricky Stevenson found the muddy conditions tough and would probably have preferred firmer conditions. Ricky was up there with the leaders for most of the race but could not hang onto 1500m Olympic Champion Asbel Kiprop who won the race, and came home a good 5th. Andy Wiles, unlucky not to get a mention on the BBC commentary also had an excellent race, covering the final part of the race in the company of Olympic Champions Kenenisa Bekele and Brimin Kirupto, outsprinting them in the home straight to come home in 10th place.
