A crisp afternoon at Acklam with hard conditions underfoot in the shade but softening in places when the sun came out. The introduction of Under 11 races at every venue this season is proving to be popular, with New Marske providing 11 of the 32 runners in the race. Scott McKenna came home 1st for New Marske, with George Geldart 3rd , Amy Carter 5th (1st girl) and Georgia Stockdale 6th (2nd girl) If only there was a team prize for this event I am sure we would have won. In the U13 boys it was a close run between Tim Geldart 7th and Adam McMillan 8th with Ben Bergstrand helping the boys to 2nd team place. Frances Bell came 6th in the U13 girls, helping the team to another 2nd place. Sam Garrett had a good run to come 3rd in the U15 boys with Josh McMillan 7th. Charlotte Sutherland finished 11th in the U15 girls. Following a mix up at the previous Acklam event it was decided to run the U17 men in the same race as the ladies. It was a competitive race with Wayne Parker going out with the leaders but finally having to settle for 3rd behind a strong Richmond and Zetland duo. In the Ladies race New Marske had a depleted team with some of the younger runners performing elsewhere. However, the team has depth and they had an enjoyable race with Kath Aspin 10th, Louise Danby 37th, Clare Hunter 51st, Jill Sexton 52nd and Jean McHugh 55th out of a field of 72. In the men’s race Tom Danby steadily returning to fitness came home 14th (out of 117), Neil Walker 29th, Andy Sugden 37th, Steve Guest, following a sprint finish, 52nd helping to bring the team home 6th.
The next race is at Richmond Old Race Course on the 5th February.
