New Marske's Ricky Stevenson returned to cross country action at Caedmon School Whitby on Saturday. After sitting in the pack for the first couple of laps Ricky turned up a gear and stretched away to win in 30:56 by over a minute from Greg Jayasuriya from Middlesbrough & Cleveland with Paul White from Middlesbrough Mandale in 3rd. In the ladies / U17 men's race, U17 Guest Annabel Mason from Wakefield lead the way, managing to pip U17 man Charlie Pasco from New Marske who beat her in the first race at Acklam. Hartlepool's Tracey Waller came home 2nd lady with Charlotte Sanderson 3rd. Kath Aspin was 1st V45 in 9th place and Izzy Pearse 3rd U17. Again there were lots of juniors out with the U15 boys of Sam Garratt, Patrick Wilson and Josh McMillan winning the team competition.
NYSD Acklam XC - 14/10/12
The Cross Country season returned with the usual weather for Acklam, rain! The senior ladies race managed to catch the worst of the downpour which provided interesting conditions for the men’s race that followed.
The New Marske men had an excellent run to finish 1st team. Alan Piggford was beaten in to 3rd place in a sprint finish by veteran Paul Lowe from NYMAC with Wayne Parker (1st u20) not far behind in 7th. Tom Danby 10th, Paul Brown 16th, Andy Pearson 37th and Andy Sugden 42nd completed the team. Well done to Julian Wilkinson who completed his first Cross Country Race.
Archie Lowe, son of Paul, was first Harrier and a good 6th in a competitive U11 boy’s race and Georgia Stockdale 4th in the girl’s race. Sam Garratt and Charlie Pasco won the U15 and U17 boys races.
In the Senior Ladies race Kath Aspin was 9th (1st v45) and Izzy Pearse a fine 22nd on her debut in the longer race. New Marske ladies came 7th team in a competitive race.
To aid runners and spectators the Veteran runners sported rear facing category numbers for the first time. You now know when you get overtaken by an older runner!
Altogether there were 43 Harriers representing the club, it would be good to see if we can increase this at the next event at Whitby on Saturday 27th October for what is always an enjoyable event.
Home Counties International - Rouken Glen 18/03/12
After a below par run in the Trafford 10K last week, Andy Wiles bounced back with a Bronze medal in the Home Counties International at the weekend. As well as winning the bronze medal Andy had the satisfaction of beating all of the competitors representing the English Team. Well done!
NYSD Cross Country Relays – Thirsk - 11/03/12
New Marske Ladies in relay good win at Thirsk
The sun certainly shone for New Marske Ladies as they grabbed a super win in the last ½ mile of the ladies event. Carolyn Summersgill set off at a blistering pace on the 1st lap clocking the fastest time of the day and building a lead of 80 seconds for Middlesbrough and Cleveland. Sharon Bulman had a good run setting the 3rd fastest time of the day and finishing the first leg in 2nd place. Kyah Hall took over the second leg and set off in pursuit of the Middlesbrough runner reducing the gap to 30 seconds by the end of the leg. Kyah handed over for the final leg to Kath Aspin in 3rd place and she quickly caught up with the Darlington runner to go 2nd. As they entered the final lap of the leg Kath was about 200m behind Andrea Ansell and set about closing the gap. With about half a lap to go, Kath passed Andrea and went on to finish 1st, setting the second fastest time of the day. The Ladies “B” team also had a good run with Louise Danby, Jill Sexton and Nicola Kydd coming home a fine 10th.
