NYSD Acklam

P1570596

P1570845

After last year’s deluge of rain at Acklam,  it was pleasing to arrive at the first race of the season on a fine afternoon, although there were a few muddy places on the course.  Up first were the U11’s who now have a race at all the events.  New Marske provided 9 of the 25 runners in this race with Amy Carter 1st girl beating all but one of the boys in the process.  In the U13 Boys, Adam McMillan was 5th, 2nd team.  Francis Bell was 6th in the U13 girls, 2nd team.  Patrick Wilson was a fine 3rd in the U15 Boys.

Pick of the day would have been Wayne Parker in the U17 Boys race, however due to a mix up with some athletes taking the wrong route the race was declared void.   In the Senior Ladies/U17 race New Marske had 9 runners out with Kath Aspin 7th overall and 3rd vet 40.  Kyah Hall was close behind in 8th, 3rd U17.  The ladies team came 4th in a strong team competition.    In the men’s race we had 12 runners who picked up 3rd team with Shaun O’Grady and Alan Piggford coming 5th and 6th.

Silver for Andy!

Andy Wiles, representing the North of England finished in the Silver Medal position at the Cross Country Home Internationals meet at Armagh on Saturday 26 March. Richard Morrell was 13th in the race - well to done to both of them!!

NYSD Richmond Cross Country 2011

Stunning views and still conditions greeted the runners as they climbed the stile to Richmond Old Racecourse.   However, once you climbed the hill towards the old grandstand the wind picked up and it became a hard slog on the multi lap races.  Alan Piggford had a good run for the men, fighting off George Robinson and Gary Grounds to finish a creditable 3rd.  In the ladies race, Kath Aspin came home 6th with Katie Coulson 7th, Katie having won a battle with Becky Mills from Scarborough.  Another strong turnout for the ladies saw them to 2nd team behind Loftus.  Patrick Wilson continued his good form to come 2nd in the U13 Boys and Wayne Parker was 3rd in the U17 men’s race.   Given the distance away, we had a good turnout in the U11 race which was won by a NMH. Mark Powers to Win!

Mark Shaw demonstrated maturity as well as talent as he won his biggest ever title in the UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships. On a course that although deceptively tough, had a sound surface that would suit Mark. He set off steadily, in about twentieth position after half a mile. After about one third of the 6k contest he had worked himself into the leading group, and then four of that group pulled away. Just after half way he made his bid to win and powered into a clear lead, which despite showing signs of tiredness towards the finish, was never going to be caught. He also lead home the North East team to gold medal.

Andy Wiles after finishing 15th in the National would be a little disapointed with 33rd but had the consolation of being part of the gold medal winning North East senior men's team.

In the other junior races best New Marske performers were Hannah Kitchener 93rd of 291 finishers, Patrick Wilson 199/297 and Katie Coulson 164/260. All good performances in top class fields!

Strong turnout from New Marske Ladies at Hartlepool XC

New Marske Ladies were out in force at a muddy Summerhill Park. Katie Coulson came home in a strong 4th followed by Kath Aspin in 6th, Kyah Hall in 7th and Sarah Rogers in 10th taking them to 2nd place in the team competition only 3 points behind Loftus and Whitby.  Also running were, Jean McHugh, Louise Danby, Jill Sexton, Ann Currie and Jess Rogers.

In the men's race Andy Sugden came home in 7th, Alan Piggford 9th having been misdirected by a marshall, Mark Gamble-Thompson 11th, Rob Currie 43rd, James McHugh 63rd and Nick O'Grady 68th.  The team came a good 3rd behind H'Pool Burn Road and Loftus & Whitby.

In the Junior races, Patrick Wilson was 4th, Josh McMillan 9th and Elliott Metcalfe 13th in the U13 Boys.  Amelia Dixon was 16th, Hannah Raine 18th in the U13 Girls.  Charlie Pasco was 2nd in the U15 boys.  Hannah Kitchener had a great run to come 1st in the U15 girls with Izzy Pearse 5th.  Wayne Parker was 2nd in the under 17 men's race.
