New Marske Team Just Pipped

IMG002

Our Senior men just failed to hold off Morpeth in the Durham Catherdral relays on Sunday. After the first leg Russ Best handed over to Andy Wiles in 4th place just under 20s off the lead, having run 9:10. Andy clawed this back with a leg of 8:52 and handed over to Mark Shaw in first place, but with only a narrow 1s advantage. The more experienced Matt Nichoson, Morpeth's final leg runner, sat in behind Mark for the majority of the two legs in the blustery conditions. Only in the final 800m did he push on to open 3second advantage at the finish. Mark ran his leg in 8:59.

Lost Property

Jon Pearse has a number of items of lost property left at various cross country fixtures:

1 grey/yellow Nike t shirt

1 black/grey Adidas long sleeved running top

1 kids grey/pink tracky bottom

1 NMH waterproof top

Re the last item on the above list, Jordyn English has lost hers - but this is not hers (too small) - do you now have one that is too big and Jordyn's name inside it?

Also Jon is unable to attend the Richmond fixture, is there anyone able to take the tent and stand in as team manager? Contact Jon Pearse This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Volunteer Recruitment

Many thanks to all those who attended the presentation at Redcar Rugby Club on 23rd January.

The slides are availbale by clicking here

The slideshow was an attempt to identify what type of skills, time committment, and where vounteers are requred. Even so some people still found it a little overwhelming.

If you were at the meeting or if you missed it, please take time to look it and try to identify what could be done either by yourself or you and a group of friends/family.

If in doubt, do something.

Ricky Runs sub 4mins in Indoor Mile in New York

In quite a rough race Ricky Stevenson finished 4th in a time of 3:58.91 behind Andy Baddley in the New Balance Games at Armory Track in New York. There was a few hitches with the youtube feed that may have prevented some from being able to view the race live.

NYSD Ackam Grange 15 Jan 2012

A crisp afternoon at Acklam with hard conditions underfoot in the shade but softening in places when the sun came out.   The introduction of Under 11 races at every venue this season is proving to be popular, with New Marske providing 11 of the 32 runners in the race.   Scott McKenna came home 1st for New Marske, with George Geldart 3rd , Amy Carter 5th (1st girl) and Georgia Stockdale 6th (2nd girl) If only there was a team prize for this event I am sure we would have won.  In the U13 boys it was a close run between Tim Geldart 7th and Adam McMillan 8th with Ben Bergstrand helping the boys to 2nd team place. Frances Bell came 6th in the U13 girls, helping the team to another 2nd place. Sam Garrett had a good run to come 3rd in the U15 boys with Josh McMillan 7th. Charlotte Sutherland finished 11th in the U15 girls.   Following a mix up at the previous Acklam event it was decided to run the U17 men in the same race as the ladies. It was a competitive race with Wayne Parker going out with the leaders but finally having to settle for 3rd behind a strong Richmond and Zetland duo.   In the Ladies race New Marske had a depleted team with some of the younger runners performing elsewhere. However, the team has depth and they had an enjoyable race with Kath Aspin 10th, Louise Danby 37th, Clare Hunter 51st, Jill Sexton 52nd and Jean McHugh 55th out of a field of 72. In the men’s race Tom Danby steadily returning to fitness came home 14th (out of 117), Neil Walker 29th, Andy Sugden 37th, Steve Guest, following a sprint finish, 52nd helping to bring the team home 6th.

The next race is at Richmond Old Race Course on the 5th February.

New Marske Harriers Parkrun Championship

This is a new award that is already up and running.

The nature of the parkruns  gives a vehicle for introducing a new award for our road running members.

We have a number of people that don’t fulfil the requirements of the current road race awards, perhaps because there is no incentive to do so (ie can’t win) or they have difficulty in accessing the required races. In addition we have a number of junior members that have been doing the parkrun events, but due to their age do not fit into our current road race awards, this would include them.

The parkrun championship addresses this as they happen every week, and will also include our club 5k’s as well. That’s a possible 55 races to get a best five from.

Even without the divisional structure, I would say that it would be possible for any member to win, as it is essentially a handicap system. But by streaming into divisions and having awards for each division it makes it more likely that the eventual winners could be decided only at the final event.
