New Marske Ladies Triumph at the Clay Bank West Fell Race

Another record entry of 156 braved the sleet and snow to tackle the short but demanding 4.2 mile route. Shelli Gordon set off at a steady pace following the youngsters Charlotte Edge from Scarborough and Angharad Owen from Loftus. Her experience and stamina shone through as she overtook Angharad before Wain Stones. After Charlotte had made a navigational error, Shelli called her back and she promptly overtook her but Shelli fought back to beat her by 2 seconds in 39:03 to record her third victory in three starts in the winter series.

New Marske Ladies beat off the other 4 ladies teams to win the Team Prize with Shelli, Kath Aspin in 5th 41:55, Kay Neesam in 6th 42:02 and Jo Goldsmith in 11th 45:36.

In the men's race Will Horsley from NFR won in 31:22 before running round again with his dog to collect in the tapes, arriving back for a second time not long after the last finisher! Bob Currie came 95th in 45:14, Mick McGuirk 105th 46:17, Nick O'Grady 111th 47:24 just 4 seconds ahead of Ronnie Sherwood 112th and Colin Scollay 143rd 56:27.

Next Race is the Eskdale Eureka on Sunday 5th December at 10.30am.
