Cock Howe and Beyond - 12/07/2011

P1510652P1510716

Why don’t you have a go at this fell race, it’s only a short and easy one………  After three years of taking fell race pictures and watching Kath run I finally bit the bullet and ran one myself.   Looking at the course profile I am not sure about it being easy!

Elevation_Cock_Howe Starting at Chop Gate, the race started with one lap of the car park to thin out the pack prior to hurdling  a locked gate. The first 2k was straight up the hill to Cock Howe with little respite.  The next 6K looped over the moors with a gradual decent followed by a long steady incline back up to Cock Howe. The final 2k was a mad dash back down from Cock Howe.   Was it worth it?  Well the 3 bottles of wine for being 1st V40 helped!    In her first fell race since her marathon Kath came home 2nd lady (more wine!).  Making his debut in a New Marske shirt, David Heath finished 39th, Mick McGurk 52nd, Phil Miles 54th and Nick O’Grady 57th.  Next race is the Gribdale Gallop on Tuesday 26th July.   Fancy doing a fell race or seeing what it would be like?  If so, why not join one of our fell route recce’s.
