Clay Bank West 20/11/11

Another excellent race for New Marske with the ladies taking away the team prize.   With the foggy conditions some members of the team found it more difficult to navigate to Clay Bank car park than navigating the course itself.  As you you approached Great Broughton you emerged from the fog into sunny conditions, only to return to fog at Clay Bank.   The race itself provided testing conditions, with the path on the outward leg being very muddy.  After turning home the runners had to negotiate the hills, and after climbing Wainstones had to cross the slippery flagstones along the Cleveland Way.  A reminder why it is important to carry kit on these races as it would have been easy to slip an injure yourself.   The race itself was dominated by juniors, Cameron Taylor winning the men's race and U15 Bronwen Owen streets ahead in the ladies race coming 7th overall and leaving many of the male runners scratching their heads about how they can improve.   Kay Neesam was 2nd lady, Shelli Gordon 4th, Kath Aspin 5th and Jo Goldsmith 7th.  Mike Smith came home in 22nd, Andrew Oliver 32nd,  David Heath 61st, Julian Bunn 69th, Mick McGurk 83rd, Ronnie Sherwood 94th, Nick O'Grady 98th, Martin White 104th and Colin Scollay 124th.  Sam Garratt had a good run to win the shorter junior fell race.
