The weather took a turn for the worse as we approached Chop Gate, with the mist coming down and a light drizzle to keep the runners cool. As we checked out the ascent the length of the grass was noticeable compared to last year, knee length if you strayed off the single track. Two visiting youngsters sped off up the hill and maintained their lead throughout the race. Shelli Gordon, fresh from victory in Lyke Wake Run with Kay Neesam, had a good battle with Nicola Kent for 2nd place. Catherine Williamson comfortably won the ladies race with Shelli showing her aptitude for come down hills fast by overtaking Nicola on the final decent to take 2nd. Kath Aspin was 5th and 1st vet45. In the men’s race New Marske had six runners out, Mick McGurk 40th, Ronnie Sherwood 55th 1st vet 70, Phil Miles 59th, Martin White 63rd, Joel Coombes 69th and Colin Scollay 71st.   In the junior race, up to the top of Cock Howe and Back, Thomas Aspin beat his mum to the top and Rebecca Aspin also had a good run to win her category.
