After having clinched the NEHRA Winter Fell Race Series with races to spare, Shelli Gordon was 1stlady in the Hardmoors 55 mile race on Saturday. Finishing in a time of 9 hours 27 minutes Shelli was over an hour faster than the next lady. The event covers half of the Cleveland Way from Helmsley to Guisborough. Well done Shelli.

Eskdale Eureka Fell Race

Mary Dryden in her first Fell Race in a New Marske shirt helped the ladies to win the Team Prize.  Shelli Gordon lead home Kay Neesam for a New Marske  one two with Mary finishing a creditable sixth.  Also running were Mick McGurk in 85th and Phil Miles in 98th.  Shelli maintained her series lead in the NEHRA winter series with Kay in 2nd and Kath Aspin in 4th.

Fell Runners master the snow

FR13

Despite the snow being deep in places, conditions underfoot provided good running terrain. Loftus ladies put out a strong team and went out fast. Shelli Gordon was 6th lady at the top of the first climb with Kath Aspin and Kay Neesam close behind. As the race progressed around the 2 mile loop Shelli worked her way through the field to finish a creditable 3rd. Kay followed in 6th with Kath in 8th. Shelli and Kay share the Fell Race Champsionship with 595 points with Kath just behind on 593 points. Well done ladies.

 

In the men's championship, Ronnie Sherwood came home in 69th to consolidate his title victory,

Also running were Sarah Rogers, 10th lady, Ralph Pearse 58th, Nick O'Grady 80th and Mark Stevenson in 84th.

New Marske Ladies Triumph at the Clay Bank West Fell Race

Another record entry of 156 braved the sleet and snow to tackle the short but demanding 4.2 mile route. Shelli Gordon set off at a steady pace following the youngsters Charlotte Edge from Scarborough and Angharad Owen from Loftus. Her experience and stamina shone through as she overtook Angharad before Wain Stones. After Charlotte had made a navigational error, Shelli called her back and she promptly overtook her but Shelli fought back to beat her by 2 seconds in 39:03 to record her third victory in three starts in the winter series.

New Marske Ladies beat off the other 4 ladies teams to win the Team Prize with Shelli, Kath Aspin in 5th 41:55, Kay Neesam in 6th 42:02 and Jo Goldsmith in 11th 45:36.

In the men's race Will Horsley from NFR won in 31:22 before running round again with his dog to collect in the tapes, arriving back for a second time not long after the last finisher! Bob Currie came 95th in 45:14, Mick McGuirk 105th 46:17, Nick O'Grady 111th 47:24 just 4 seconds ahead of Ronnie Sherwood 112th and Colin Scollay 143rd 56:27.

Guisborough Three Tops - Shelli Wins again!


After a wet week and a wet start to the day the weather cleared for the record field of 142 runners.  At Highcliff,  Phil Sanderson from NFR already had a substantial lead and went on to win the men’s race.  Shelli Gordon was second women over Highcliff but managed to overtake Caittlin Webb-Ellis from Loftus and seal victory in the women’s race.   New Marske Ladies won the Team Prize with Kay Neesam 3rd, Kath Aspin 6th and Jo Goldsmith 9th.   There were also good runs from Bob Currie 77th, Roger Moore 92nd, Nick O’Grady 108th, Martin White 128th and Colin Scollay 137th.

With the conditions underfoot being very slippery there were a few injuries amongst the field.  It highlighted the need to carry the required equipment and at the next few races “No Kit” with mean “No Go”.
