2012 Brass Monkey Half Marathon (30th Anniverary)
Back in January I took advantage of a 4 week break in the NEHRA Winter Series to run my second half marathon – my first as a Harrier. The course is flat and fast, and the conditions were fine, apart from a blustery wind that seemed to be against us for most of the race! It was nice to see some familiar Daves from the fells – David Kirk let me into his pre-race ritual, and Dave Minchin provided encouragement as he came flying past me at around 8 miles. As for the New Marske runners, Shaun O’Grady finished 58th overall out of 1711 finishers. Phil Miles and Jim Conaghan dominated the M70+ with 1st and 2nd in that category. Mark Bradley was 15th in the M50, Paul Cleasby was 34th in the hugely competitive M40 category, and Jo Wheatley 34th in the F40. I was happy with a top half finish, knocking over 4 minutes off my previous run in Redcar last year. So its back to the fells for a while, but I’ve already got my entry in for Redcar’s 30th Anniversary in September.
