Wilmslow Half Marathon - 24/03/13
Oh to be a race director, heavy snow forecast, parking fields waterlogged, twitter users asking for info! In the end there was no snow and the fields were frozen so the cars could park.
We nearly didn’t make the journey and when we got stuck on the M62 for an hour because of the snow we almost wished we hadn’t! However the snow plough cleared the way and when we arrived at Wilmslow there was no snow at all. Wish the same could be said about the wind, it was blowing a gale and only got worse on the morning of the race. Our Premier Inn was only 400m from the start line so no rush to get there and good warm up facilities at the Rugby Club.
5000 people running so good start position needed which was remarkably easy to do as there were no barriers on either side of the road. Kath was then spotted by an ex Loftus runner Mark Melbourne who happened to be running at the same pace so they ran together for the first ten miles. At this point the course turned straight in to a strong headwind for the last few miles and all the runners had pained faces when ran by.
Kath’s aim was for a sub 1:30 and with a sprint finish she came in at 1:29:46 and picked up the 2nd v45 prize.
