Mermaid 10k- Friday 18th April 2014
The popularity of the New Marske Harriers Race Series is on the up, with the RACE FULL sign going up two months before the annual Good Friday Race. On a popular PB course from Marske to Redcar and back, 238 runners set off to run the 10K each with their own personal goals. From the top runners completing the course in 32:34 to the slowest in 1:09:39, from age 19 to 75, the race is enjoyed by all ages and abilities. On a warm day a headwind hit the runners as they headed down the sea front on The Stray but as they turned for the return leg the wind made way for a hot 2k to the finish. New Marske’s James Bulman and Shaun O’Grady were 1st and 2nd with Michael Joyeux of Quakers 3rd. The Ladies race was won by Alex Snook of Jarrow and Hebburn in 37:06 with Dawn Richardson of Quakers 2nd and Sue Phillips of Darlington 3rd. Other good runs for New Marske included PB’s for Clive Thornton 36:57, David Hodgson 40:05, Alan Robson 44:12, Stuart Hart 46:17, Thomas Bunn 46:31, Laurie Everitt 46:37, Cheryl Poutler 56:16 and a big 6 minute PB for Tanya Dixon in 55:36. Entry on the evening only for the next race in the series, the Spring Coast Road 5k, register at Redcar Rugby Club with the race starting at 7pm.
