Thirsk 10 Mile Race - 23/03/14
In 2013 the wind beat most runners at the Thirsk 10 mile race. This year 31 New Marske Harriers made trip down hoping for better weather. For many this was the last race before tapering for the spring marathons at Manchester and London. The race starts on the edge of the racecourse, and whilst it was not as windy as last year, and the sun was shining, the first few miles were a case of tagging on to a group where possible to shelter from the breeze.
New Marske’s Andy Wiles led from start to finish cruising to a comfortable win in a 50:43 PB, 3 minutes clear of the field. A great battle took place for most of the race between Marske’s James Bulman and Matthew John of Otley AC with James grabbing 2nd place by 3 seconds also placing him number 1 v40 for 10 miles in the country this year. Tristan Learoyd 5th and Andrew Pearson 10th completed a winning New Marske men’s team. The New Marske ladies team of Kay Neesam, Kath Aspin, Lisa Bennett and Sharon Bulman also had great runs to pick up the 2nd place ladies team prize. Also in the prizes were Ronnie Sherwood for 2nd 70+ and Lynn Woods 2nd 65+.
