Hartlepool Marina 5 Mile Road Race - 30/03/14
Report by Trish Speedie
Described as 'fast and flat' the Hartlepool Marina 5 mile road race was a first for me and many other runners at both distance and venue.
Everyone gathered at the Wingfield Castle ship before we were all escorted to the start line, not far away. The race started with a great atmosphere setting us off with a huge cannon blast.
The first part took in some residential streets where some of the locals gave their support, then soon up onto the promenade.
The weather was misty and dull but this obviously appealed to many runners and made for some good results, although after the turning point at Seaton Carew there was a slight breeze for the last couple of miles.
On the long promenade, which seemed never ending, it was great to have the support from other runners as we passed on opposite sides, one of the good points I like about these 'out and back' races.
The 5 mile finish was back through the streets and back to the Marina where we left off where many people shouted and cheered you in.
The race was very well organised and supported, definately worthwhile returning again!
Some great runs from New Marske with 2nd Place for Dom Shaw (25.08) behind Wondiye Indelbu in 24:45 with James Bulman a minute behind Dom in 26:07 all showing as PB's on Power of 10. Lots of other PB's showing including Trish Speedie, Alan Robson and Amanda Waller.
Well done to all New Marske Harriers who took part.
