Old Monks Race Multi Terrain Race - 03/01/16
Report by Diane Hall
Five New Marske Harriers made the total of the social run at the back this year. The course had been changed slightly due to the past wet and windy weather. It was just under 5 miles, shorter than normal, we weren't sure whether it was tougher than last year or not, the mud certainly made it tougher. We did our usual regular run and regroup, starting together and finishing the same way. The majority of the run seemed to be in single file around muddy fields and along tracks, changing the scenery occasionally by whose bum was in front, you certainly couldn't look around for fear of loosing your footing. The marshals around the course were brilliant giving encouragement. It was nice to hit the final piece of road again, downhill now compared to the uphill going out. We ran in formation to the finish as birds or aeroplanes, we knew Karen Newton wouldn't be far with her camera. There she was waiting for us, one photo in flight then we stopped as usual to pose for the team photo, thanks Karen, then on a further 50m to the finish. We finished in about 59 mins, time is irrelevant, it's a group of friends enjoying the company and the banter. Another one over, ready for a well earned cuppa and piece of cake.
Editor :- At the sharp end of the race Tristan Learoyd claimed a good victory in his first race in first race back after a Pulmonary Embolism in late November. Trish Speedie picked up 1st V45 prize and Tom Bunn was also running.
