With York still recovering from the recent floods it was great to see over 1500 runners descend on the Racecourse where signs of the devastation were still apparent on the fields. It was another cold day for the Brass Monkey Half Marathon with the hire of a gritter ensuring the race went ahead without the icy conditions that prevailed last year.

The course headed off into the countryside to the south of the racecourse, a relatively flat course, with the only hills being a couple of inclines over bridges.  Following a loop around the village of Appleton Roebuck the route returned back towards the racecourse.

11 New Marske Runners took part, and for many of them, it was the first race in their spring marathon preparations.

Martin Murray was first Harrier home in 46th 1:17:34, just 1 second outside his PB but with the consolation of picking up the 1st V45 prize.

Sharon Bulman was 8th lady in 1:24:54 picking up the 1st V40 prize and Kath Aspin 13th lady in a PB of 1:28:33 picking up the 1st V45 prize.

There were also PB’s for James Allinson 1:19:49, Glen Farrell 1:21:34, Allan Wilson 1:30:54 and David Aspin 1:37:19.

Also running were Paul Cleasby 1:24:20, Stewart Hart 1:43:34, Diane Hall & Michelle O’Grady 2:21:29.

Sold out within a couple of hours this year, it is definitely a great race to do.
