Victorian 10k - 21/07/13

New Marske Summer Coast Road 5K - 26/06/13

P2080211

A great evening at the Coast Road in Redcar for the Summer 5K.   In a change to the previous races on this course we had a new Start and Finish with an added change of running the opposite way to normal.  This made difficult watching for me as the course appeared to be quicker and many people were screaming with joy when they crossed the line with PB’s galore.  Having run in gale force winds in the Spring 5k I wanted to be running not taking the photo’s!

Lewis Timmins was first male home in 15:08 and Tracey Waller first Female in a 17:24 Pb. However, as the prizes are based on Age Graded %, first past the post does not mean 1st prize.  For example Lewis was 85.73% and Tracey 89.05%

Next race up in the series is the Victorian 10K on Sunday 21st July.  Get your entries in here and avoid the last minute rush at the last 10K!

The Middlesbrough College 5k Riverside Run - 2nd June, 2013

 Midd5K

                                                                                  A thorn between two roses!

Report by Patricia Speedie

Upon arrival at the Riverside Stadium the atmosphere was already buzzing.  Runners doing their usual warm-ups and getting to know each other, everyone as friendly and warming as ever and the sunglasses were out again, well it was sunny after all!

The weather was a big help, not too warm and not too cold, just the right conditions, actually perfect!

It didn't seem to take that long before everyone gathered together for the start (this time we weren't cold) we chatted and were excited about the prospects of new PB's!

The gun went off and everyone went on their way, the 5k had started at last. The course was flat and very well organised from start to finish. There was even a water station on the way. The facilities were also perfect, right inside the stadium.

Arriving at the finish was amazing, you could hear the roar of the spectators as others in front of you were entering the stadium which gave you the feeling that you couldn't wait to get in there yourself!

Then it was my turn, upon entering, the cheers and atmosphere was incredible, people shouting and giving you encouragement along the way, right to the very end.

For the New Marske Harriers crowd of runners the morning was perfect, the race was won by Dominic Shaw who came in 1st with a spectacular time of 14:43, in fact 4 of our runners were in the top 20 which was a great achievement and many runners recorded new personal bests.

What a great race, even a t-shirt and a medal to remember the day, I for one will definitely return!

Editor:

Too many PB’s to mention in what sounds like ideal conditions and Andy Pearson running his best time since he was in short trousers, well almost!

Patricia did not mention that as well as getting a PB she was 2nd V40!  Kay Neesam was 1st V45,  Andy Pearson was 2nd V40 and Ronnie Sherwood 1st V70 .

Edinburgh Marathon Festival - May 2013

P1080223

Club Record for Jim

An early start for the Half Marathon Race, which kicked off at 8am.   Jim Bulman had another great run to come 2nd in 1:11:19  and also broke the Club V40 Half Marathon Record.  Gemma Parkin also ran a super half marathon grabbing a new PB of 1:40:23.

The Full Marathon kicked off a 10am, with Kath Aspin and Alan Robson in the field.  After hitting the halfway point on her target, Kath picked up ITB problem which slowed her down in the later stages but she still came home with a good 3:23:35, five minutes outside her PB.  Alan came home in a respectable  4:25:29.   The Edinburgh Marathon Festival has about 5 races available over two days and everything seemed to run smoothly this year.
