Thrower Sisters medal at NE Championships.
Report by Charles Burke
At the recent NE indoor athletic championships, Jordan and Molly Thrower both came away with medals. Molly had an excellent weekend, winning gold on the Saturday in the U13 girls long jump and then on Sunday winning gold again in the U13 girls 60m hurdles. Molly also ran well in the 60m finishing 4th. Jordan jumped a personal best of 4-81m in the U17 girls long jump to take the bronze medal. She also ran 5th in the hurdles and ran 2nd in the B final of the 60m. Elicia Smith finished 3rd in the same race and also jumped a grade 4 triple jump of 9-46m in her first competition at that event. She finished 6th in the 60m hurdles.
On the Saturday, Sophie and Matthew Brining competed. Matthew winning the U17 boys pole vault with a clearance of 3-80m. Unfortunately he also suffered a broken ankle when attempting 4m. Sophie jumped an equal pb in the U15 girls high jump with 1-20m and followed that up with a 3-60m long jump.
Matthew Walker had a busy weekend starting with the U15 boys high jump, claiming 3rd place with a jump equalling pb of 1-45m then long jumped 4-40m. On Sunday he ran the 60m in 8.6sec.
However, apart from Molly, the star of the weekend was Amy Carter setting a new Championship Best Performance of 8.84secs in the U17 girls 60m hurdles. A time which puts her 5th in the UK at that event. Brilliant Amy. Amy also ran 8.09 in the 60m to finish 3rd.
Seven athletes, seven medals, WELL DONE ALL OF YOU.
