Although the team finished last of the clubs competing this was mainly due to the depleted numbers. For those who did compete there was pb's galore (highlighted in yellow in the results - apologies if I missed any). There was also 2 club records - Amie Bloomfield cleared 2.15m in the Pole Vault to establish an U17/U20/open record and Richard Morrell knocked 22 seconds off Shaun O'Grady's long standing 3k Steeplechase record in a time of 9:13.3 which also earned him the NMH Track Athlete of the Match Award. Amie won the NMH Field Athlete of the Match Award - not for her Pole Vault but her triple jump of 9.74m The next fixture is at Middlesbrough and the return of a couple missing stalwarts and perhaps a few new recruits - I doubt we will finish last again! Much of the comment regard the Senior league applied equally to Young Athletes, although a strong head wind on the home straight made good times difficult. And field events were also affected eg Amie Bloomfield was unable quite reach her standard of yesterday, the wind was blowing the bar off as she was preparing to jump - this happened several times - so you can imagine what effect it had when she was actually jumping!
The strong headwind didn't stop Katie Coulson breaking the club 300m hurdles record at her first attempt at a hurdles race - 49.6s over 7s ahead of the next athlete - definately more to come with better conditions and a more competitive race!!
Well done to all those who competed for the club over the weekend!!!
