North of England U13 and U15 Championships

Report by Charlie Burke

Three U15 boys; Sam Donnelley, Dominic Shipman & Jacob Winspear, competed in the 800m at the Northern Athletics Indoor Championships in Sheffield.  With nine athletes entered in the race, heats were required with the first two in each heat to qualify together with the two fastest losers.  Dominic won the first heat with Jacob finishing in fourth position.  Sam then finished a comfortable second in his heat to secure his qualification, whilst Jacob was unfortunate not to secure a place in the final, losing out by only 0.11s.  The final saw Sam take the bronze medal after a fine sprint finish whilst Dominic finished in fifth.  All three athletes set new PB's and thoroughly enjoyed the championship experience.

Libby Currie and Elicia Smith also competed. Libby in the 200m and 60m.Libby progressed to the semi-final of the 60m finishing 5th. A super effort Libby well done. she also progressed to the semi-final of the 200mafter running a pb in the heats of 29.71.

Elicia had a busy day competing in the long jump, 60m hurdles and 800m. Her long jump wasnt up to her usual standard, not making the final eight. Elicia progressed to the final of the 800m with a personal best in the semi in 2-28.67. She needed to start the final but still had 2 rounds of hurdles to complete so, although sixth placed from the heats and semi she dnf her final.

Elicia ran two pbs in the hurdles (9.84 in the semi) and finished a very creditable seventh in the final after a very busy day.

Elecia Smith (New Marske Harriers) won the Silver medal in the high jump clearing 1.45m. In the under 13 age group New Marske Harriers were in great form on the first day of the championships. North East Pentathlon Championships 19th September 2015

Report by Charles Burke

Eleven club members and their parents (not mine !!), enjoyed the glorious sunshine while competing in the annual outdoor pentathlon event at Jarrow on Saturday 19th September, a date which has been fixed in the training groups calendar for what seems like months. The group have trained 3 or 4 times a week trying to master the highly technical disciplines involved in the pentathlon - hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot putt and 800m.

An excellent turnout from the club at what is a physically and mentally draining challenge. Everyone ended up with at least one pb (I have checked Power of 10, and apologies if I have made any mistakes).

U13 boys - Lucas Pentland 1pb in the shot putt, and niftily dodged a fellow competitor who fell in       the hurdles. Points 775 7th out of 9.

U13 girls- Charlotte Bennett 2 pbs in the shot putt and the 800m in 2-31 which gives her the U13      girls club record which she has been chasing all year, brilliant Charlotte. Total points                              1791 12th out of 29.

Ruby Whitney 4 pbs !!! long jump, high jump (winner of the smiliest high jumper), shot                   and 800m. Points 1635 15th.

                 Libby Currie 3 pbs !!! and 1 equalled hurdles, =long jump, high jump, 800m. Points                        1318  21st.

Lucy Nicklin 3 pbs !!! high jump, shot and 800m. Points 1175 23rd.

Millie Pentland 2 pbs!!! hurdles and long jump (an upsetting KJT hiccup in the high jump                 due to over zealous officiating !!) 747 points 28th.

Libby, Lucy and Millie are still in the U13 group next year, well done girls.

U15 boys- Matthew Brining 4 pbs !! hurdles (an event he was dreading), long jump, shot putt and                   800m. Points 1063 6th.

U15 girls- Elicia Smith 3 pbs, high jump, shot, 800m. Points 2382 (a club record by nearly                             1000 points) 5th out of 21 and first season in the U15 group. An excellent performance.

Jordan Thrower 4 pbs !!! hurdles, high jump, shot, 800m. 1776 points (also bettering the                club record) 18th. (first season)

Casey Thwaites 5 pbs !!! well done Casey. hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot, 800m.      1375 points. 20th. (first season)

Vet men 65 Charlie Burke 1pb ?? 800m. 1578 points 6th out of 11, 1st V65 men.
