In senior men’s competition Adam Walker retained his title with a pb points score of 2095 beating his previous best by 38pts. He also beat his dicus pb by 38cm by throwing 23.47m.
Hannah Raine in the Under 13 Girls won the bronze medal with a score of 1932, with a pb 800m.
Josh Baines also finished in bronze position with a score of 905 – all 5 events were pbs (to be fair it was the first time he had competed in HJ, 80mH and SP).
Elena Heath finished in 6th in the Under 15 Girls with a score of 1448. She would have had a significantly better score had she not no-heighted in the high jump but set pbs in the long jump and shot.
Well Done to all four!
Congratulation to members that have been selected to represent Cleveland County at the National Track & Field Championships being held at Gateshead on 6th & 7th July:
In what is likely to be last county championship held in May, there was a quite a few medals and pbs for New Marske Harriers’ members on day one, but the closest finish of the day was in the Sen 1500m where Richard Morrell and Andy Wiles in a slow time (for them) finished 1st & 2nd – Richard clocking 5:59.58 – 3/100 of second ahead of Andy. In u17 1500 Charlie Pasco won in a pn 4:06.42, there were pbs for Josh & Adam McMillan in their 1500m races. In 800m there was a routine win for Chloe Loredo who earlier in the week had set a new club record of 2:14.74 at the School Games at the Olympic Park. Also in 800m there was pb for Amy Carter
Amy Carter and Hannah Raine both made it into 200m final where they both ran pbs
More to follow…
In very windy, cold conditions Chris Jones (Ducey) won u17 Hammer, but Jess Rogers had to settle for silver but set a new Sen / U20 Club record of 34.97 - beating the 33.28 mark set by Natasha Simpson in 1994 before Jess was born! There was also a gold medal in the field events for Charlotte Sutherland in the u15g Shot.
On the track there was another win for Chalie Pasco following up his 1500m on day 1 - this time in the 3000m. In the 1500m Chloe Loredo set a Championship Best Performance of 4:41.03, in the 1500S/C a lone Katie Coulson also set CBP which was also her worst performance in the event!
Patrick Wilson won a bronze medal and pb 2:10.27 in 800m
It has been a frustrating week looking out for the YAL result, no less so to find that they were actually out there on the web - just not where they SHOULD have been. Hopefully that will now correct itself.
I wanted to do a full report on Monday but lack of results prevented this - however at the moment I will just highlight the two club records that I am aware of:
In the YAL, Hannah Raine u13 Girl High Jump 1.35 previously set by Johanna Jackson at 1.34 in 1997 and
In the BUCS held at the Olympic Park, Russ Best set a new mark for Open 5000m of 14:29.47 previously held by Mark Shaw (u20) at 14:37.2 set last year.
A fuller report will follow
Aviva Sportshall Regional U13/U15’s Finals 18/02/12
14 New Marske Harriers girls made the trip up to The Seaburn Centre Sunderland to represent Tees Valley in the Aviva Sportshall Regional Finals. Having never been to a Sportshall competition before I was surprised by how well the event was organised and all the girls enjoyed the day. Thanks must go to Team Manager Jean Cole and Ester English for organising the team and all the New Marske coaches for the training.
Sportshall has worked across each county to deliver the largest school sport competition programme over the past five years. Thousands of youngsters have been introduced to athletics through this event. Boys, take a look at the video to see what you missed and hopefully next year we will be able to enter a boys’ team as well.
To round off a good day, Katie Thornton won bronze in the U13 girls 4 lap race and Lucy Williamson bronze in the under 13 girls vertical jump. Well done to all the girls.
