It was a slightly disappointing day for our runners at the Inter Counties Cross Country championships at a rain soaked Woolaton Park, Nottingham - Ricky Stevenson looking to put up a good show after last year's disappointment, never really felt well enough during the race to be competitive. But Dominic Shaw had a good finish in 33rd place and helped the North East team pick up the silver medal. Jess Russon was carrying a cold, and finished a disappointing 113th - but that still was in top half of a good class field. Mark Shaw had his preparations disrupted by a freak accident at home - stubbing his toe on a spiral staircase, and up to Thursday he wasn't certain to run. He tasted defeat for the first time this season, finishing fourth of 285 runners that completed the course - but that was still good enough to clinch the the first prize for the UK Cross Challenge Series which started at Birmingham in October, also included races at Liverpool, Belfast, Cardiff.

The team selected to represent the North East Counties at Wollaton Park, Nottingham includes only four members of New Marske Harriers. Threr would have been six but for Lizzie & Katie Templeman's longstanding commitment to a National Baithlon Competition. For Mark Shaw it is also the final leg of the UK Cross Challenge - he is currently unbeaten in the series.
