HATS OFF TO NATIONAL SIX STAGE HEROES

At first glance finishing 34th doesn’t sound like a great success. But for New Marske Harriers to be able to send at team to the National 6-Stage competition at Birmingham on Saturday, with all the team coming from within six miles of rural New Marske – is tremendous!

Compare this with the team that finished 3rd – Newham & Essex Beagles who recruit their team from all over the country – including Stephen Hepples and Rob Cole who also live within 6 miles of New Marske!!

Let the “Old Man” of the team, Mark Gamble-Thompson take up the story - I have run for Middlesbrough & Cleveland Harriers, Gateshead Harriers, Salisbury AC and Colchester Harriers.  I have won many big team events but the 34th in the National 6 Stage for a small village club with 6 local runners is one of the best team achievements I have seen.  Many of my colleagues from all areas of the country who spoke to me on Saturday said how well this small club has done.  Bear in mind Sunderland were 44th and we only just made it to the finals.
